New Features in Invision Power Board 2.2

Invision Power Board 2.2 contains a huge selection of new features ranging from low-end code improvements to new features designed to enhance your community involvement. New features include:

Personal Profile Portal
Invision Power Board 2.2.0 has a totally redesigned portal page with the following features:

* Friends list - manage your friends for easier PMing, to see if your friends are currently online and display your friends on your profile
* Profile comments - allow visitors to leave comments on your profile. You can set to moderate all new comments before they're shown.
* Recent visitors - recent visitors are shown on your profile.
* Your content - show your recent posts / blog entries / gallery uploads on your profile
* Personal statement - add a short bio for others to read
* Member rating - rate other members
* Set your gender
* Easy access to edit your location, age and IM details

Note that you can optionally switch back to the old "classic" profile view in the ACP.

New Text Editor

New Style
The text editors, both standard and rich text (WYSIWYG) have been completely rewritten to make them more intuitive and faster to load. Clutter has been reduced with the new dynamic menus.

Switch
You can now switch between the rich text editor and the standard editor without the need to reload the page or visit your User Control Panel.

New Attachment System
Upload without the reload

IPB 2.2 has a new attachment system that enables one to upload attachments without having to reload the post screen. The new attachment area is directly below the text editor.

New Style
The attachment system has had a complete overhaul and is now styled along side the new text editor

Monthly Directories
IPB now saves uploads in a monthly folder, making FTP directory listings much easier.

Extensible
The new system is extensible via the attachments plug-in system. There is now one central attachments repository and plug in modules define space allowance and rendering options.

New Thumbnail Design
Attached image thumbnail previews now have information above and below the thumbnail offering original file size and original dimensions.

Inline message system
Invision Power Board has an on-the-fly message system to confirm actions taken place. This is an important new part to the user interface especially when using ajax when it's not always apparent that an action has taken place.

Please let me know if you have any questions! beer_cheers.gif

I just tested in IE 5.5 and 6.0 here and no probs. Can you try rebooting Winblows and see what happens?

Thanks,
Nick

I was just trying to post an attachment and in Firefox I don't get the attachment section. I can see it fine in IE 7 though.

Well, it appears this new 'rich' text editing window with all the bells and whistles is a little 'klunky'.

Can't cut & past or copy & paste, right clicking does not provide a menu with the Cut or Copy option any more.

The button for inserting the quote tags bites too. Before, you could click the button and place an end or beginning quote tag before or after text. That feature is non-functional, now the quote button drops both beginning & end tags no matter what. It still wraps though.

Lots more features, but the ones that used to work pretty good don't work at all or work screwed up!

One thing I also noticed is that there is no reply button to a PM. To reply you need to click on the Quote button.

When the rich text option is selected, it takes forever to load all the extra junk (that might never be used) whenever this text editing window opens... It was fast at work, but I think there's a chance all these 'bells & whistles' features I may not use each and every time are causing a bandwidth logjam on this 56k conection. wall.gif

I like the security part of this new version upgrade, but the rich-text feature is a major nose-dive. comp26.gif

Now ieSpell is nonfunctional here too... Works on all the other forums, used to work here, but now it's screwed too. wall.gif

I'm going turn the rich text feature off due to poor performance!

Did you guys do something? The attachment feature works in Firefox now.

AG,

You should still be able to copy and paste. I have been able to in both IE and FF. I just do the old fashion ctrl+C and ctrl+V and....poof...the text gets copied and pasted. TgC_emoticon142.gif

I had to manually fix that. Invision (the writers of this forum software), had this function slip through the review process. All fixed now. biggrin.gif

Sorry to hear that AG. You may have to use the non-rich functionality.

Cut/Copy & Paste doesn't work in Rich Text mode. So yeah, looks like I'm stuck with POOR text mode! laugh.gif

Very odd....it works in both modes here for me in Firefox, its just the right mouse is not the same in both modes, but the CTRL+V works in both. TgC_emoticon142.gif

Well, I'm using IE here, so if it works for you in FF isn't useful information to me.

I don't use FF because I don't need to have two browsers on a computer any more than I need two transmissions in my truck... It's like adding a GM transmission to my Ford truck, and still keeping the Ford transmission in there! laugh.gif

Installing FF may work, but it isn't the fix. Now if there was a FireFox OS that came bundled with the FF browser, that's what I would use.

Maybe the authors of the software didn't focus on full compatibility with the most widely used browser on the planet? Or maybe the computer I was using last night had a buggered up install of IE? (yet to be discovered)

Doesn't matter though, I'm happy with POOR mode... Don't worry about it. The bells and whistles just aren't worth the speed hit and loss of ieSpell when I'm on a 56k connection anyway.
taperk600
can't change gender and options in profile....where did all my contacts go from the old program.......don't have any where to post pics...only able to add URL, not just pics.....I know there are benefits to the changes...seems some bugs to work out too !!! Thanks for all the work you guys do to give us this great site !!!!
taperk600
can't upload images......just continues to say "uploading'..with the icon spinning....left it for 15 mins....never changed or loaded image....
