Full Version: Little help at the Amsnow shootout?

I heading to the Amsnow Shootout asphalt race at US 131 in Martin Mi. this weekend. Might need a little help with getting the sleds back to the trailer with the scooter. I think my friend is coming and his sled can't be driven back to the trailer, mine should be ok. It gets a little hectic on race day, especially if I am lucky enough to go some rounds. Any help would be appreciated. Look for the white trailer with Lewny Tools and The Outdoor Shop lettering on it.
Thanks, Bill.
ODS Dan
anyone that decides to help Bill and the ODS race sled will get a thank you gift.. shipped to you after the weekend.. and if Bill does well that gift may get better... lolol..

so please let Bill know or just post here if you are near or going to the track and feel like helping out in his pit. I wish I could go to these races...

thanks
Dan

well first time out in almost 2 yrs.. on nitrous.. I think ran 8.92, and that was guessing the tune-up, which was off huge and over revving, so it should have much more..
BUT after the first run the sled quit after the run, he thought burnt it up.. but looked it over and the top end looked fine. Still decided there has to be some issue with something, maybe crank bearing or something.. The sled has been bulletproof for 3-4 seasons now, so he/we decided the payout and the chance of locking the track at 140+ may not be worth it. So he limped the first round, hoping the other guy would red light..

Anyway we now know what we have to work with, never ever made a full 1/4 pass on full nitrous, now we can figure it out and get it right.

I think I will go next year too.

I wasn't gonna mention the second run ................. biggrin.gif
ODS Dan
doesn't matter, it was a "never know" thing, if it ran, at least line it up and look like you can run..

Kitty, it was nice meeting you, I wish I would have had more time. I had my hands full all weekend chasing gremlins. Dan and I decided on this nitrous deal for this race only a few weeks ago and had to do a lot of work to do in a short period of time. I think we did pretty well getting the sled in the 8 second range at almost 144 MPH on the first pass without a single track testing run. Too bad we had issues after the first one because we had a good chance at getting to the finals again. Can't complain about that motor though, it has been rock solid for 3 years now and that sled has won so many times I can't remember. Not bad times for a sled that went over the scales at 700lbs with me on it. TgC_emoticon55.gif I'm certainly no lightweight. I would have loved to try our "big" nitrous tune-up but it wasn't to be. We will get it fixed and that sled will run 8.60s to 8.70s over 145 MPH with my fat a$$ on next year. sledder.gif

Thats flyin. To bad about the gremlins I know how that goes. what was the 60' on that run and 8th? Boondocker kit?
looneytune
I think the 60ft was 1.37, mid 5.60s to the 1/8th at 123 MPH. It's a Nitrous Express wet system with some custom reed spacers that Dan had made, then I installed the nozzles at an angle to clear the pipes. It's a prototype reed spacer that Dan could sell to install on twin or single pipe sleds. I didn't get the sled done until Tuesday night, went to Dynotech Wednesday, then left Friday for the race. First pass ever with that system went 8.92, so I think we did ok. It isn't as easy as it looks or everybody would be doing it. Looking back at performance, we have been stuggling with crank bearing issue for more than a year and that sled has still run good numbers. I cant wait to see it's true potential when we know when can step on it's tail without any problems. TgC_emoticon129.gif

I have to make it one of these years. About a 4 hour drive for me. That sux what happened Bill, but chalk it up to a learning experience. You didn't fail, you just found something that didn't work. smile.gif

I think I will have to go next year. Dan, who you crappin'? You'll never go. LOL

Bill to run 8's off the trailer at a guess on clutching and gearing you did great. I have a couple of vids but I missed your 8.9 pass sorry but I left the video camera at the truck. With some more run's under your belt that sled will run in the 8.6's easy and if you want it to go even faster I will lend you my lightweight pilot (Rob) slaphappy.gif just kidding but Brian would surly be up to the task.
It was a great weekend at a great track with a lot of great people and the weather held out for us. It's the one race I hate to miss.
ODS Dan
Bill you can now add the 8.9 to your signature.. hahaha
looneytune
Big thanks to Ernie (stone), Paul, and Rob for all of your help. I wouldn't have had it near as easy as I did without all your help. Year after year, these guys are always willing to help me, no matter what I need. I really appreciate that. Someday I may have to switch over to the dark side because nothing sounds cooler than a 4 stroke Yamaha with that exhaust tone. Superchargers rock, eh? Nice job Rob did driving, I would have been in bed after the tune up he had going Saturday night. The only thing louder than the music Saturday night was the arguing inside of my trailer. Wow, talk about bench racing. Can't wait until next year and I'm looking to post some big numbers from Dan's sled. We know it has it, time for the driver to lose some weight and lighten up the sled. I have the itch bad to go sled racing again after this weekend. I would have loved to install that 100 HP shot though. yo_sup.gif

Nice job Bill. I wanted to come down to see you run.
