Hi,
unsure.gif I just heard from a Cat dealer that there is a big secondary clutch problem on the 2009 Z1 Turbo LXR's, etc.. He stated that the problem "is not" covered by Arctic Cat, but there is a fix. According to him this problem is tearing up drive belts. Any info. would be appreciated before I buy one of these sleds. Thanks, Ray

There is a discussion at www.hardcoresledder.com. Some of the members are pretty sure that Cat "missed" the clutch alignment for the 2009 Turbo models. The 2009 models came with 1.655" offset, 2010 are back to 1.507" offset. Read some of the HCS Arctic Cat 4-stroke topics and make Your own decision.

The Secondary Clutch problems isn't my main concern, have a look at this www.hardcoresledder.com topic.

thumbguy2.gif Wow!!
Thanks for the heads up and for including both link's! Especially the gas tank/engine mount problem.
I still want to purchase a new 2009 Z1 Turbo LXR, but I will be pulling the tank and grinding down the ear on the mount. Yes, this would be such an easy fix during production. it's pretty hard to believe that no one at Cat noticed this problem. Hmm.......
As for the secondary clutch/belt issue, AC has put out a Service Bulletin, which I'm sure most of you know about (below). Can you tell me if the new Torque Bracket Retainer that AC is talking about fixed this problem? Or is there more to it. I did read the post on this subject and hopefully this is a fix without going through the pulling and machining.
Again, a big thanks for the heads up! People like you are what I love about this forum! Ray

This Service Bulletin is not fixing the hot clutches/belt issues. This SB's Retainer secures a bushing in its location.
As You could read in the HCS topics, not all Turbo sleds have this "Blowing" belt syndrome. The best way to check this is by observing the clutch and belt surface temp. If the clutches and belt runs hot, machine the secondary clutch. It's a 5 minutes job in lathe, and some minutes with a 1.507" offset bar. Leave this secondary clutch machining to the your dealer, it's no big deal and You get properly aligned clutches.

My local machine shop charged me some cookies (to the coffee break) as payment biggrin.gif

Hi,
I talked to a AC mechanic in my area this morning who owns a 2009 Z1 Turbo LXR. He stated that all the engines coming out of the factory were mis-aligned as well. He personally, was blowing belts around the 300 the mile mark. The engines are 1/8” off of properly being aligned. Thus for, causing belts to wear out prematurely. He added, that dealers are aware of it and are "suppose to be" aligning them during set-up along with the torque bracket retainer replacement. He stated that the parallelism is suppose to be around 60 and that they are coming in at around 120. Most are being shifted ahead on the PTO side.

Not covered???? I got the notice in the mail for the secondary. I called the dealer and he told me if I didn't want to drag my 32' trailer through the burbs, just bring him the clutch. 15-20 minute fix to replace the retainer washer, or whatever it's called. If this was not done, the clutch would be damaged and would tear up belts.

Does anyone know if all these issues are worked out on the 2010's? It'll be interesting to see if it is.....

All 2010 Z1/TZ1 are back to 1.507" offset. This should give an indication for us with a 2009 Z1/TZ1 Turbos where to start trouble shooting.

@ lvr1000
There are two problems, first one with the retainer and a second one with the offset.
