my park brake will not engage the ratcheting mechanism unless you remove the cable this happens on my 700 and 550 spoke to dealer he says don't bring it in yet, arctic cat is working on the fix, the cable sheath is too long and when you step down on the brake the cable hits top of dash and bends over this releases the brake i wonder what everybody else is doing about this, my temporary fix was to remove the cable and tie a piece of welding wire to the release and route it through the hole in dash for the release handle, works perfect, but it is ugly, i wonder if it would be easy to convert it to the park brake release on the xtz, takes a new console and the brake handle i just dont know if it will bolt in on the 700 xtx anybody else having problems?

The 2008 Prowler XTX parking brake release cables have a plastic head, when the tip breaks off they move out of the release arm instead of pulling on the release foot! The late 09 models have a metal tip that uses a clip ring to hold it into place, (p/n 0487-064). I have installed in onto a couple of our customers prowlers and it seems to work better! The parking brake set up still is a crappy design! When you adjust the arm on the brake caliper itself you need to turn the rod the cable pull arm hooks too clockwise until it hits the piston and then back it of 1 spline! Then adjust the cable so you don't have to push the pedal down all the way before it grabs the disc tightly! If you guys are having problems with the diff slack jerking you around you can install a new throttle cable/sping (p/n 1436-323) it helps alot of taking the human element out of the slack that comes with the turf saver diff! Good luck!

MY 700&550 BOTH HAVE THE METAL ENDS, THE SHEATH ON THE CABLE IS TOO LONG, YOU CAN SET BRAKE AND MOVE THE CABLE AND IT WILL RELEASE, THE LONG LOOP IN THE CABLE HITS THE DASH AND BENDS OVER BECAUSE IT CAN NOT GO UP ANY FURTHER, WHEN IT BENDS OVER IT PULLS THE RELEASE LEVER, I THOUGHT THE RATCHET DID NOT WORK THAT GREAT AND DID NOT FEEL POSITIVE IN ENGAGEMENT BUT IF YOU TAKE OFF THE CABLE IT WILL ENGAGE PERFECT THE CABLE USED IS ABOUT 2 INCHES TOO LONG AND HAS NO WHERE FOR THE LOOP OF EXTRA CABLE TO GO, I HAVE SOLVED MY PROBLEM WITH THE WELDING WIRE BUT I HATE HOW IT LOOKS, I WILL CHECK WITH DEALER AGAIN BUT WILL PROBALY AT LEAST CONVERT THE 700 TO THE PARK BRAKE RELEASE ON THE XTZ, UNLESS THEY HAVE A FIX IN ANOTHER MONTH OR SO.
