Have you been changing it at 500 miles as per the owners manual. B/c that does seem like to much. Dont know what that would convert to quarts but mine dosnt use any at all between oil changes.

ohmy.gif I've changed mine twice now, got 1300kms. on the quad and the oil level never changes. You should talk to your dealer. TgC_emoticon142.gif sos.gif

I would bring it in to have it looked at. What kind of oil are you runnin? I change my oil after every race weekend (2 races + practice usually) (roughly every 8-10 miles) so I dont know what normal oil use is but that sounds a bit high, I run a full synthetic (AMSOIL) its awesome stuff, if your not running it you may want to think about switching. Just my opinion.
What kind of machine do you have? Miles/K? year?

i have a 400 trv, i stretched the oil interval change a bit . my manaul says to change to it every 480 kms, i stretched it out to 1500. this was the second oil change to be done so maybe that has something to do with it. i could be wrong about the 1/4 liter , it could have been less as it was hard to tell as i was using the gallon jug. plus my air filter was caked with dirt (really bad). i should not have left it so long. i use ac oil 5w50. the plug was not black, brown insulater when i pulled it.
i was thinking about changing to amsol syn 5w30 and see what happens. there is no smoke behind me. i am thinking normal use (hoping anyway).
i will keep my eye on it, if i do a compression test what should the pressure be? do i do it with a cold engine or hot ?
really glad for the feed back.
i was checking on some other forums and some of the yamaha grizzlys go throught this much oil between changes.
bottom line i will change oil and filter more often.

i do ride it hard, lot of wide open blasts and mud holes , we will see how it goes.

is the amsol syn good oil? and what about fram oil filters, way cheaper then ac stuff.

thanks for the reply mini racer and stay safe over there in Iraq!

IMHO I feel that AMSOIL is the best synthetic oil out there. I wouldnt run any other oil. It may tighten a few things up for ya too and you wont go through so much. I usually run an AMSOIL filter or a Vesra filter. And thank you for your support, it means alot to me and my guys here that so many people are so supportive of what we are doing here.

I use AC 0w40 fuill synthetic since the day I got mine. I usually change the oil in them every year before hunting season along with the diff. fluid. I only had a problem with low oil 1 time and it was my fault for not putting the drain plug in all the way wall.gif . Glad I didn't use it, it just sat in the garage and dripped oil, luckily I checked it before I went out.

I also use FRAM oil filters, PH6018. I get them at Wal-Mart a lot cheaper than the AC ones, only thing is they are a little shorter than the AC branded ones.
