Whats up guys I recently purchased a 2001 300 that seems to be burning a little oil but not to bad. I can smell it see a little smoke and when i get done riding I smell a little like oil. When i got the bike i changed oil and did not change oil filter i put synthetic 10w-40.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to why it is burning oil or anyone have any solutions to reduce burning oil other than doing engine work?

Thanks.

Only two ways for it to be burning oil. Worn valve guides or Worn piston rings. I would think the best possible way to remedy this is the engine work you referred to. Now there are those snake oil automotive products that claim to reduce oil burning, they may help, or may affect other internal parts in the ATV engine like the wet clutch? I don't know, I've never read where anybody has tried any of these products in a ATV or motorcycle with either positive or negative results.

Yep.....what Wyo said. Unfortunately, the only real way to cure the problem is to get into the motor. It's not hard, but it would need to be done to fix the problem.

Same problem...mine smokes like a freight train. I'll probably dig into it this winter, after new years.
