Hello Snowman, Congratulations, nice sled! Good choice!
I have been working on solutions to studding these machines since even before I got my 09 800 CF SP last year. The 09 is exactly the same in regards to studding procedure as your 2010. It is no surprise that Arctic Cat says not to stud since they haven't even gone far enough to offer a stud for the application yet! It's just a niche market and they probably figure it isn't worth the time for the 100 sets they might sell each year. They changed the 2010 F-series back to double ply, I wouldn't be surprised if was partly to do with confusion studding those regular pitch cobras. These ARE single ply, all of the 141" 09-10 Crossfire 1.25 and 1.5" tracks are single ply design.
There is nothing rocket science about it but you need the correct parts and info to do the job right the first time. Clearance is not an issue, I also run a 2.25 Power Claw part of the season, there's gobs of room in there for the studs. The Cat tunnel protector kit is a complete waste of time and $50 and will not protect enough for comfort. It would take anywhere from 3 dealer hours to 5 or 6 real garage hours to install and doesn't protect enough for the 1.5" with those flexible middle lugs. I have scratches in my cooler from last year so in the off season I developed a really nice machined nylon tunnel protector kit for them that protects completely and installs in an hour without removing the gas tank/skid or drilling out any rivets.
Woodys does not make a stud for these tracks, they stop at a length barely tall enough for the 1.25 (1.352) standard cobras. Stud Boy is just coming out with some, I ordered a pack for testing this year. I have been running the Big Shot studs on this sled since dec of last year, they have been the only stud made for these tracks since early last season. They have 1.200 heads and I have carried their products for about 6 years now. The Big Shots have larger more supportive backers than the Stud Boys, and the carbide tip is much larger (the largest anyone makes). The tips wear longer than you would ever expect. The Bullseye backers are almost 1.600 dia and they also offer Double Bull backers for a super rigid combination. The Big Shots are packaged with tall nuts and they are basically mandatory for studs this tall.
141" track is a 3" pitch and has 47 lugs so 3 per row would work out as 141 studs. They all go up the middle. I have a pattern that works perfect to easily pull this pattern off.
1) You are probably familiar with the wide pitch (2.86") single ply scenario from your XP Renegades, if you are used to running studs in the past you will probably be missing out with this sled if you don't stud. That new motor is going to have alot of power that needs to get to the ground somehow. 2) The Big Shots, designed specifically for your Single Ply track. 3) none whatsoever, rear and mid tunnel protectors are required, Arctic cat's kit is not good for this job, I have a kit ready to go with full instructions.
I will pm you the links, you can use "My Assistant" up above and search Johnmaster in this forum (nice feature) for other threads with studding info in them and a couple testimonials. If anyone else wants info, feel fre to PM me.

QUOTE (Snowman.ca @ Oct 18 2009, 07:50 PM) Just got the new 2010 CF8 SP with the 1.5 " lug.
Finding alot of conflicting info out there on studding this puupy.
Artic Cat says NO studs recommened.....at TO show today, talked to Rep and they phoned engineer who says clearance may be issue.
Couple CF8 (2009) friends say they don't stud their sleds.
Woddys does NOT make a stud for this machine...although some of there dealer tried talking me into 1.45 or 1.75 inch studs....either too litlle or too much.... I am thinking a stud of 1.625 is ideal!
Stud Boys says they have this stud (1.625) BUT even though Artic CATs brochure says this sled is a ONE PLY track....STUD BOY reps are sayiong Artic CAT pulled all single ply tracks due to relaibility issues and the track I have is a multi or two ply track. Artic CO reps were not sure at show.
Questions:
1) Should I Stud? 2) If I do which one.....is this a single ply track???? 3) Clearence issues with front bulk head/heat exchanger?
I have had 2 BRP Renegades 8000 X with 1.25 inch single ply, both an 08 and 09 and studded it......I ride some trail, alot of riding in Northern Ontario both on/off trail.
Any comment appreciated hi dave, have you measured your cobra 1.5 track.i did today and found something very interesting (i will post a pic shortly)the lugs are alot taller than 1.5....closer to 1.75 interesting!!!!!true story as for ply yes they are single ply.as for studding both johnny and ryan and myself do not stud.i have not studded since my 2000 zrt.(so firecat, crossfire and now crossfire again)now mind you this may be a personal perference thing but we find these tracks have alot of bite. why don't you try it and then decide.the stretch of the single ply is going to be huge anyway.so it will benefit you to stud after a few miles.keep us posted. kerry

QUOTE (Snowman.ca @ Nov 15 2009, 03:12 PM) Bought the Johnmaster studs and tunnel protector at the Noiv show.
Tunnel Protectors are an excellent product and very easy to install. Very glad I did not put the Artic Cat protectors on my sled.
Want to try a few rides without studs but plan to add them soon into the snow season.
