Electric start removal

While im waiting for parts, I thought Id take out my electric start. It doesnt work the housing is cracked and missing a few chunks. I think removing it would be easy enough but i read a post on a thread saying something about having to change the regulator to a standard regulator if you removed the electric start? That was for a 03 zr, i have a 96 ext efi.

I have removed the electric start on several sleds without ever changing the regulator it won't affect anything it could actually help you. You could leave the battery and have a constant 12v voltage that could be used to power a variety of accessories.

The battery has nothing to do with EFI. It is a battery less system and chances are the electric start was a dealer add on as most were for ZL and Zr's unless you got the ESR models. Just disconnect the battery and start the sled.

No, my 96 EXT EFI is a battery powered efi system. You dont have the battery hooked up it does nothing. The sled will not start with no battery. Few years later they went to batteryless EFI systems that just ran totally off the stator.

I was just in the process of removing my starter when i stumbled upon a question. I dont know a whole lot about wiring, circuits and electrical components. I was wondering, will removing the positive cable for the starter off the solenoid do anything to affect any other parts of the electical system when i go to start it up and ride? or will it be fine.

You should be fine there is no power going through that cable unless the solenoid is engaged.

Ok, so im gona take the cable right off. As long as no one turns the key to start it, the solenoid wont give any power to that cable correct?
