Water pump seal help please

Im in the process of rebuilding my sons 98 zl 440 all new crank seals and pistons do to a lean condition and lost mag side. Any way i bought a winderosa gasket kit with seals so i figured i would change the water pumpp seal since its apart but now im stumped. After i took impeller off removed shaft there is a tin cap that looks like it has to come out of the case to get at the seal. And it likly isnt coming out with out getting recked and kit didnot come with on is there anyway of getting this out without damaging it

Thinking out loud, if I read it right, your doing a complete rebuild and now you want to try and reuse one seal? I must say, pull it and order a new one, why stop there? Peace of mind is priceless eh?! And protect your investment in the rebuild.
Get a mechanical seal and oil seal and be done with it($34 for both from Cat). My $.02

Right behind the impeller is the mechanical seal, then the oil seal is behind that. Not sure of a way to get it out with destroying it, its pressed into the case forming a seal. You have crankcase halves put back together already?

Something I've found you must have........
The appropriate Service Manual!
If you go to member 109jb and check his signature,
You find a link to purchase these.
They're less than $20, IIRC, and worth every cent!
The 2000 model year has what you need.
Mines locked so I can't copy and paste.
