Do you ratchet at hight speed? You should not lose that much top end on a loose track even one that ratchets. carry a 9/16 around and tighten up the track a little, to me sounds like your having clutching problems or belt slipping? But you should pull way more then 95 on a ZR 900. My buddys moutiancat 900 will pull way over a 100 even with the low gears.

Keep it as loose as possible without ratcheting. Tight is resistance. that will slow you down.

I've heard that too loose of a track will rob top end speed. It balloons inside the tunnel, catches air and acts like a big sail. A track that is ballooned out too much will also rub on the tunnel which will also rob top end.

I would start with your track and get rid of your ratcheting then if your still not pulling numbers you should be i would start looking at your primary and secondary and see if there is anything binding or sticking, Ive had my secondary rollers flaten out on me befor and it robbed 15mph on my top end so i just replaced the primary spring went through my primany also to make sure everything is working right then did the same to the secondary, your compression sounds good but iam not sure also on the numbers on the 900 motor, on my 720 I only have 110psi and i blast past 100mph with ease.

loose to a point = excelleration = sno cross

tight to a point = top speed = drag sled

Start talking to ice and sno cross racers and you pick up a couple things.

My performance manual says for top speed it should be tightened to 20lbs of bulling force at 2 inches. BUT thats for way fast sleds and hyfax wears pretty quick. just tighten till two fingers fit in between the rail and track snugly

big dog,
Whats goin on????
I hate to tell you this, but your crank is coming apart and is out of spec, this is why it won't rev.
The crank is so far out of phase that at high rpm it is fighting itself
to rotate and the reason for lack of rpm and power.

One thing you need to keep in mind is that all of these 900's
have severe crank issues. I have seen many issues with these cranks
I had to take mine apart and sent it out to be trued and welded.

Spec is .001 to .0015 total runout.
My 03 was out .007 on the mag side and .014 on the
pto. That's right 14 thousandths. The pork cop was pulling out of the crank pin and
rubbing on the inside of the crankcase. My engine has
1400 miles on it and was bone stock. My buddy has a 03 900 with 800 miles on it. His was .0055 on the pto and .008 on the mag
You are looking for trouble if you don't get it trued and welded.
you can take it to a dealer and get it fixed, but Cat will not weld them. The 900 crank is a bad design and will twist out of phase in a couple hundred
miles after it is trued, if it is not welded. If you true it and weld it you will not have any more problems with it.

If you want to haul it over to Monroe, I can pop the clutch and the flywheel off and check it for you.
Mike

It's the exact same crank i had in my 800. 9000 miles, 4500 of those W.O.T. and tripple digit trails. i felt the vibration once on the river at around 100 that was when my track was way too loose.

I ride with two 900's and another zr 800 that are high in miles. no issue.

Always start small try the track first.
