Hi,

I've got an 01 ZL500 EFI. Very fun sled. Not the fastest sled out there by any means but quite snappy none the less. Nice trail sled. No recalls that I know of. Normal sled troubles, clutch, drive shaft bearings, etc. Just dropped over $700 into mine, some needed, some for fun. Keep finding little things to fix. It's got around 3000 miles on it. Hope this helps.

I had a 99' ZR 500. It was a great sled. It's still in the family as I sold it to my cousin dirt cheap to get him back into the sport.

Check with your local dealer. THere was a service bulletin on the 99' 500 which changed the requirement to 91 octane (your book says 87.)

THe only real problem I had was a blown head gasket.

You will someday. Add a couple more years onto that 17 and I think you'll care. I didn't care when I was 17 either.

I would have to agree. I didnt buy a sled to save gas. Its recreation and part of the deal. The 500 is a great sled, I had a 99 ZR500, and my wife rides a 98 ZL. You wont be dissapointed.

I had a 2001 ZL 500 ESR for one winter. Nice enough riding and handling sled. My 18 year old son loved it. 2 things I didn't care for were how loud it was with the stock pipe, and the high clutch engagement, around 5000 RPMs. My preference would for be a bigger engine with exhaust valves. Lots more pleasant riding something with more torque.
