Im looking at a used track from alssnowmobile and i found one i might buy but im not sure if it will work because every third clip is solid. Does this mean if i bought it that i would need to change my sprockets or can i use it stock? It also is advertised that it has 2 lugs that have cracks at the bottom is this still usable or should i stay away from this one?

It all depends what your paying for the track, if its only two lugs its not bad. Also since its studded make sure there in good shape also. As for the 3rd hole closed part of it it depends what kind drive sprokets you have. Most modern cats(+'90) are driven by lugs on the inside of the track and the sprockets dont drive by the windows. If you have anti-ratched sprockets or anything like that there is a chance that the track is being driven by the windows.

The closed windows, with every 3rd bar clipped is in theory suppose to keep more snow inside for lubrication and less weight due to less clips. I just picked up a ripsaw with the same setup. They have a version that is also fully clipped and every window open, so a matter of preference I guess.

I'd want to take a look at that track in person. It's looking a little used up already in that picture.

I meant to mention that too, but got pulled away halfway through my post. Good catch.

Once you see a stud tear out, now it may have been a freak incident, but what I discovered on my track was than many other stud backers were cutting into the track and it was only a matter of time before another one ripped. In my situation, one still hung on by a flap and ate it's way through the front heat exchanger. I ended up overheating the engine and the end result is, that it would have been cheaper to buy a new track.

That track looks worse than the one I just took off my sled. I don't understand why people even sell them. Bottom line, lives are at stake if the track fails. Not worth it to me.

I won't be selling my old one. Shipping cost wouldn't be worth it, and I'd feel bad if something happened to someone because if it. I guess if I consider it used up, why would I pass my garbage on to someone else? People have had good things to say about some of the newer kimpex tracks, and they seem reasonably priced. I'd try to go for it. Have you made your decision about lug height, and whether you're studding it or not?
