I'd always heard the 700's were rock solid motors
my friend has a 2000 ZL 700, it'll go as fast as you like as he's 100% stock.

i have a 95 wildcat 700. 13 year old motor and it still runs with his 2000 700.

That's cause it's essentially the same motor....

The only things different are the ignition, carbs, and pipes. Plus, the older motor made more power than the newer one.

Im sure you understand this, but its all in setup...a 440 setup for 500 ft drags could make an 800 long distance lake racing sled look silly in a short race but at a 1000ft it wouldnt be pretty for the lil 440.... You have to pick your style and tune for that - no matter what you are going to both win and lose races.

But the 700 is a great motor, mine has over 5500 miles on the clock and is still ripping it up. Like previously mentioned they have a decent amount of power but 94-95 ZRs like mine came stock with twin pipes putting them in the 125 h.p. range. Yes they are a little on the heavy side but plenty have been made into rockets for the trail. If you're dissappointed with the performance then mod it up, there is a lot of aftermarket components availabe for that sled including pipes, porting, clutching, reeds, timing keys, etc.

As I had a 600 and now the 700 in the same sled

The 700 is faster and quicker
