Sled: 2003 zr 900
I just bought what I think is a 2003 zr 800. One thing thats wrong is that it has carbs I think? I'm not totally sure what the efi looks like. The eighth to last digit in the vin is a 3 which indicates it's a 2003 and it says zr 800 on the hood. But I just discovered on the air box lid under a sticker it says 2003 zr 900. There is a speedwerx head on it so that doesn't help. Maybe I just bought a mutt. The sled runs like a top and it was only $2000 so I guess I can't complain. So I guess my ? is can I look on the engine somewhere for #'s that tell me something.
Any help would be appreciated.[attachment=101862:car_hous...arts_185.jpg][attachment=101861:car_ho

It is carbureted. I can't tell if it is 800 or 900 but is probably 800 unless it has a cylinder and piston change.

Nice Monte Carlo SS. I have one in my garage too beside my sled under rebuild. Mine is 87 maroon with 107,000 Km and never winter driven. It now needs a headliner and visor restore, and could use some new paint. They seen to rot down just sitting there.

Check on your belt cover, the year and engine size is written there on my two 340's, not sure if it would be on yours though, but worth a try.

look on the clutch side of the cylinder, If it says 785ml on the side, it is a 800 cylinder, 862ml on the side is a 900.
This isn't fool proof, it could be a 800 cylinder bored out to a 900????.
The only way to tell for sure is to pop the head and measure the bore???

Back when I use to work at a few local gas stations, a few guys had those and grand nationals, and use to add chips as well. They were brand new back then. Nice car!

2 different coloured cylinders by the look of it. Wiseco sticker on hood. A mix and match of parts? Too hard to tell.

the black cylinder hasnt been touched maybe bored if that the silver one has been replated maybe bored as well I would take the heads off and measure it up for sure and check out the pistons and rings to see if they need to be replaced.

I was thinking about taking it apart. What size bore does a 900 and 800 have? Also does someone make a service manual for these? I can't seem to find anything.

Car looks good, what all you have done to the engine (besides the obvious..lol). Let me know how it runs when you get it goin, I've got an old Camaro i've been workin on. Check over on HCS, they had some downloadable manuals there if I remember correctly, I know they had a 02 manual....
