Hey guys, sorry, I'm not trying to be a pain but I need a few opinions on this sled. It's a 97 zl 440, comes with hand and thumb warmers. How is this sled performace wise? Does it have 90 hp like the zr 440 of 97 did? Whats the suspension like? Any issues with this sled? Does it require much maintenance? Hard on gas/oil, etc. Just need some insight on this sled before I purchase it. Thanks a lot guys.

The ZL 440 is a great sled, but it has a different engine than the ZR 440/500/600. It is a piston port inducted engine taken from the prowler sleds in the early 90s. It makes 68 horsepower, whereas the ZR 440 makes 90hp. Completely different engine.

I almost bought one earlier this year, but ended up going with a ZL 500 with the 96 hp case reed inducted twin instead. I thought the ZL440 was just a detuned version of the ZR engine, but it isn't. The chassis, suspension, ride should be just as good as any other ZR, ZL of that era. Just not quite as powerful in the engine dept.

A co-worker owns one. His wife rides it and loves it. Nothing really bad to say about them except they have the older engine. They are very reliable sleds though and fun on the trail from what he says.

Hope this helps

also, the 97 is the first year for the longer travel fastrack and ETT tunnel. The suspension should be very good on this sled, I hear they corner flat, get good fuel/oil milage, and ride well. Great trail sled if you don't need to win lake races.

Thanks a lot Wes, also would this sled be able to handle a jump at most 4-6 feet high? What about the speed how is it? Quick, or more to the top-end kind of power or is it just ok in acceleration and top end. Also, whats the weight on this machine, a comparison would be great if you don't know the numbers. Thanks.

i have a 98 zl440. I love it. As said above you won't win lake races. I can't remember but I think you may hit 70-75mph. I personally think it's a fun sled, good acceleration, nice powerband. I went through a piston and cylinder on mine, ring caught the exhaust port. Should be a reliable sled.

No, this'll be my second sled, commin off a Formula S 380, great lil sled when I was younger but now I want a bit more power, suspension, fun. Not very many sleds for sale around here at all so this one will be strongly considered.

Hello, new here but I just wanted to add my 2 cents. I picked up a 97 zl 440 last week and I can't seem to stay off of it. Like others have said you will not win across the lake, the speed limit in mn is 50 mph, this sled will get you a ticket here NO PROBLEM! Out of the hole or through the trails this sled pulls quite well. I fricken love the ETT, when I get back on my POO it's like rid'in on a 2x4. That's all I got for now gotta go ride. PS BUY THE SLED!!!!!!!!!!
