I recently bought a 97 t-cat. I was looking at it today, and I noticed that there are no tunnel protectors to stop the studs from hitting the heat exhangers. There is 196 studs in the track, Im not sure the length but I think they are a little over an inch. The guy I bought it from said its been studded since it was new, and that tunnel protectors arent neeeded on that sled. I was was just wondering if this is true, because I thought that you had to use tunnel protectors whenever the track is studded. The last things i need is to poke a hole in a heat exchanger, Id rather be safe than sorry. Thanks
I thought the same thing when I went from my unstudded '96 Pantera to my '98 ZRT 800, which has studs. I assume the AWS4/ETT chassis doesn't need them because the heat exchangers run along the length of the tunnel, adjacent to the area of track which contains no studs.
My Pantera had heat exchangers at the front and rear of the tunnel, which neccessitated tunnel protectors, if studs were to be used.
