I am wondering what function it serves. The brake light, and dimmers work without it (the plastic clip broke on the part).

I broke mine off this year. $16.00 (if I remember right maybe it was less?) for a new one. The new part includes a new clip to hold it on. Function, don't know.

That's not too bad. I will just get one and be done with it.

this piece controls you low and high beam operation. so without it you wont have high beam lights.

Mine broke off too. Everything seems to work without it,brake lights ,tail lights, high & low beam headlights.I was wondering if I should even bother fixing it.

I beleive all it does is push the lever back into place after pushing it out to swith hi/l or pulling it in to brake. I took one apart to see what was inside. Not much other than a spring and a magnet.
