Good discussion of similar problem on 1973 panther 440 thread. Which carb do you have?

it was switched to a mikuni, got it back on after cleaning still have the problem.looking at other thread looks like it could be points. is there any way to check the coil before I start on the points?

I had the same problem with my 73 440 cheetah. I replaced the seal, points and condenser. Problem solved. Also have the coils tested. If a seal is leaking onto the points it can burn one or both out.

is changing the seals a big job for a rookie
