I have this sled i kind of want to restore and get into vintage show/rides. I like the sound of the vintage rides a little bit more. I am located in Central MN so if anyone knows of any of these style events i would love to know! The sled i have runs but only at or near an idle. I know the carb is good and clean but it needs a rebuild kit or for me to find a new carb all togeather. This one seems cobbled togeather. What i am most worried about is the track though. I have heard bad stories about the old cleated tracks letting go of the cleats and giving you a little surprise through the tunnel. Also i have never rode a cleated sled so i guess i couldn't say. Could i replace the track with a more modern one? Would a more modern one fit? My goal is to be able to attend one of these vintage rides this winter. I know i have a little work ahead of me but i am actually kind of looking forward to it. Any tips? New to the vintage sled world.

You can replace the track with an all rubber one that is available from Tracks USA.
However, if the track is in good shape, keep it.
To replace rivets, use the steel ones not aluminum.
I personally found some screws with big heads [made for tracks and available from Shade Tree] that worked even better as they were long enough to act as studs too.
