Testing of CDI box

Any advice on how to test the output of 1984 Panther CDI box. Artic Cat service manual uses a specific tester . Any way to do it with a digital VOM ? I have taken resistance readings for all stator,coil boot,and plugs and all appear to be in range according to service manual specs, but still no spark. The charging rectifier diode on the positive cable at ignition switch is open. any ideas? Thanks for any help.

Did you try a jumper where the wires come out of the stator to bypass the ignition completely. If this does not result in spark you may have to buy a cdi or borrow one to try. As far as I know there is no way to test a cdi box.

Yes, I have disconnected the four wire harness connector from the engine and jumpered the brown to the black on the engine side. This resulted in no spark also. My 1984 Arctic Cat service manual has a procedure for testing cdi output,charge coil output, and trigger coil output, but, all procedures reference a cdi tester Model 1L with some kind of (60, 50 High and 65 Low) scale settings with a tester light illuminating if output is satisfactory. I am a electrician but don't know how to cross reference to some meter reading. I will order a CDI box per your reccommendations. Thanks for responding and your advice. Bill B.
