Found this on craigslist. Looks factory, is it?

"1992 EXT 550 SPECIAL RACER with black magic pipes with clutch kit, studded track, and carbides, nice shape, runs great."

those are factory decals, but not for that sled. that would have had the pink flames originally. I believe around 2007 cat came out with the retro Z decals for a firecat maybe? that appears to be those decals.

I don't think there is anything special about it because they make a '92 EXT Special. Someone put pipes and different graphics on it and they think it's special to them and probly want too much money for it. How much, how many miles, motor been rebuilt and are you looking to buy it?

It is a 92 ext with 77 sno pro decals for a retro look. It was built by a Cat racer...but is not a factory race sled. For what has been done to the sled, it is actually going quite cheap.

It has a lot more " then a set of pipes and graghics " It has a full mod race engine and all the parts to go with it. This is not a toy.

No...it is not mine... but I do know the sled.

Your right Kyot. Seems like somebody should check into things before they say things like " I dont think there is anything special about it " Lots of special in that one all right!!!

I'm not trying bash anything. I'm sorry. Above my previous post he said nothing about the sled having all that done so I had no details. I thought it was just a stock '92 EXT Special. No harm, sorry about that. I appreciate the correction, so you guys should have seen the info I had to go by. I'm not mad at anybody.

No problem 72EXT.I guess I jumped on ya a bit too hard.I have seen that sled around too and it has a LOT of GOOD stuff going for it.Nice looking too.If only I was 25 years younger. I would have it in a second for some lake fun!!!!! The price is right.

No problem, I like the sled. I have a '91 EXT Special and one for parts and a '92 EXT non-Special for parts. 10,000 miles on the '91 thought I better do pistons and rings along with the full gasket set and antifreeze leak fix. Better safe than sorry, good compression, my long time mechanic and another friend couldn't believe how well the pistons looked. They said they would run them til I told them how many miles they had on them. Hey your only as old as you feel, you could play with it yet.

Back in the day Blackmagic built sleds for there racers. Blackmagic in the early 90's was the factory race parts supplier anything for racing on a CAT came from blackmagic. I know for a fact you could buy whole sleds from them with all the goods on it and in the motor.

so did someone build that sled to drag race it? it appears to be unrideable in most conditions with those skis. I ran those sleds back in the day and it was not the ideal chassis for a full mod as there was not enough room to fit pipes to get the full HP potential. In 92 we ran black magic pipes/mods on that sled. But as soon as the 93 ZR 580 came out with more room under the hood, those were kind of obsolete on the track or strip.

That being said, I would love to have an original 92 special with the pink flames in the collection.
