hey guys, got a question for you. Ive never been beneath the belt cover, till now. My buddy got alot of sandy water in his belt the other day, and wont go over 30 mph. i ttok cover off, and took off primary, it was packed with mud. But i jumped the gun and didnt take off the belt. I tried takin it off, thinkin it would be like a sled belt, but the belt is so close to the casing, it got me wondering if you have to take of the secondary just to get the belt off....is this correct?

Did you watch the video From Airdam// .. http://www.arcticchat.com/forums/ind...owtopic=138380

You should be able too spread your secondary with a screw, and remove the belt, you shouldnt have too remove secondary

Be carefull using the cover bolts...mine slipped off alomost all the way in...what a PITA to get it out and now I have to replace a cover bolt...it is soo much easier to just remove the secondary with an impact gun IMO...but good luck!

Like morrison0916 said it easy to get the belt off by just removing the secondary and sliding the clutch and belt off at the same time. Just remember that when you go to put the primary clutch cover back on that you make sure the belt is seated partway down in the secondary clutch as to give you enough play to make sure you have splines from the shaft sticking through the primary clutch cover before you tighten the nut on the primary. If you don't and the cover slides on the splines later the nut will come loose causing all kinds of damage.

Hope this helps Jeff @ funoutfitters.com

What machine does he have? If its a 500 he may have to put a shim between the secondary sheaves to spread them, some dont have the bolt holes for a cover screw.

sorry guys, i thought i put what he had, its a 08 650H1.....and the cover bolt trick didnt seem to work, the holes were pcked with mud, fter cleaning the bolts just seemed to big. And i just took off the secondary. And funoutfitters, how do you get the belt seated partially down the secondary, how do you spread the sheaves?

What I have done is place the secondary clutch on a bench and then push on the inner sheave to open the clutch. You may need some help in getting the belt put into place in the secondary but once you get it in there just hold the belt tight and it shouldn't come out.

Hope this helps Jeff @ Funoutfitters.com
