Does anyone have a hand shifter/Suicide Shifter for there 4x4?
I want to get one but I measured the placement and its "seems"
horrible. (especially when riding double)
I haul stuff on my quad along with another person sitting
behind me on the seat, so large winter boots and foot shifting with 2 or even 1 people/person sucks.
And it seems like they are all straight shaft shifters
(as in go straight up)
Im considering making my own that is bent/ angled more towards the front fender and then comes straight up from there.
Out of the way of my knees.
Plus when you go through mud its a real bitch to shift if you even have to shift at all...

Thats probably what im gonna do...
Just weld something to the top of foot shifter.
It went out and looked and there isnt much to weld to.
Plus it seems like even the pre-made ones are gonna be awfully close to
the pull start and Hi-Low selector.

I actually have links to numerous websites with hand shifters...
I was just wondering if anyone has made there own (if so how) or if they have bought one?
And how well they work?

Do you have the heel/toe shifter? If not, it makes a giant difference in big boots and 2 person situations. If you're not satisfied with a honda style (if that's what you have) then you might look into the heel/toe deal before the suicide shifter.

The stick/suicide shifters are iffy at best. It works like a pendulum. The longer it is the farther it travels at the top. Had one on my kids quad and that thing moved around 18. To down shift it went to the fender and then you had to move your leg to up shift. It was a PITA. IMHO Id look at the heel toe shifter.

Here's a pic of my '98 King Quad that my buddy just bought from me.

I put the shifter on because I couldn't get my pac boot under the shift lever. It's an awesome thing to have...you get so used to it that it become second nature. And when there's lots of water you don't have to get your feet wet...you can kneel on the seat and shift with your hand. It's GREAT!!!

It has a Heel-Toe shifter but its still a pain in the ass to shift with big boots on in the winter, Especially with 2 1/2 feet of snow and 2 people on it. And like Skandic said when there is alot of water you can put your feet up and still shift.
