ive been thinking of replacing my steal winch cable with synthetic rope. anyone use it or know the good and bad points i gues you also have to replace the fairlead as well any suggestions I dunno
I'm not going to change my fairlead out. From my experience, I'm only pinched for the 1st few feet if any at all. Maybe I'm the only one but when I start winching I aim the quad right at where I'm winching. I dunnoOriginally posted by HungryCat650V-Twin@Jan 29 2005, 05:16 PM
One artical I read from I think it was Samson/Amsteel blue said just make sure there are no burrs on the roller fairlead and you will be fine running roller fairleads with rope.
Yeah, the spectra cord seems to be just fine on the rollers.Originally posted by HungryCat650V-Twin@Jan 29 2005, 06:16 PM

You ask for bad points and I honestly cant think of any. It is better than steel in every way. Plus you can get it on eBay for about 30 bucks delivered.Originally posted by customcat650@Jan 29 2005, 04:28 PM

That is the best thing to do but sometimes we have to winch to extreme angles,just no choice. I already did a search. Could only find 100' lengths. 3/8" and 1/2". They were both well over $100.00Originally posted by DrakeOutfitters@Jan 30 2005, 10:32 AM

Cheapest I have found.
At 5.400lbs I don't see why it would be a problem. Your site also sells it in 10' increments. That's cool.Originally posted by modn@Jan 30 2005, 08:31 PM
Here is another one >< I posted it on discussion instead of here. Does anyone think there would be a problem going to 3/16" for rope?? 5400# capacity I dunno
That is why I was wondering, if they normally take 1/4", I would like to go to 3/16" and add 10' to it. Just a thought I guess. But at 5000+ lbs. That shouldn't break on a 2500# winch even maxed out with a snatch hook or without, right??Originally posted by HungryCat650V-Twin+Jan 30 2005, 08:49 PM--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (HungryCat650V-Twin @ Jan 30 2005, 08:49 PM)</div><!--QuoteBegin-modnAt 5.400lbs I don't see why it would be a problem. I just looked, and the Warn 2.5K winch has 50' of 3/16" cable.Originally posted by modn@Jan 30 2005, 08:24 PM
What size is the cable that is on the 2500lb warn winch 3/16 or 1/4.
Wow, no kidding!! That is what happens when your wife goes to visit her mother and father for the weekend, and leaves me here with the 2 1/2 and 1 year old. Not much to talk about. We played with play doh today and that was pretty fun though!!! We also went out sledding since it was 28° today and yesterday, but other than that it was pretty boring not to talk to an adult.Originally posted by HungryCat650V-Twin@Jan 30 2005, 08:55 PM
Damn Walt...You will be at 2 grand by tomorrow evening.
I guess I will stay with the 3/16"x50' for $39 then. That isn't too bad of a price.Originally posted by HungryCat650V-Twin+Jan 30 2005, 08:54 PM--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (HungryCat650V-Twin @ Jan 30 2005, 08:54 PM)</div><!--QuoteBegin-modnI just looked and the Warn 2.5K winch has 50' of 3/16" cable.
