wont rev & wont run when warm

i have a 2001 arctic cat 500 auto that i cant figure out. when i start it it will idle ok untill it warms up, but it wont rev up at all. after it warms up it kind of backfires once or twice and then dies. then it wont start untill it cools off a little. i have gone completely through carb twice,very thorough. new plug (it gets a dry sooty film on it). i am thinking elect. issue, has anyone ever experienced this before? can anyone steer me in right direction? thanx for any help

would the coil keep it from revving up? it wont rev up cold or warm. it acts as if it has a governor on it, then after a minute or so it will backfire and die.

Have you pulled any fuses or diodes out of the fuse box? Sorry I misread your post

I'm not real familiar with the 01 but does it have any diodes or relays in the fuse box?

it appears to only have fuses. i dont know if reg/rect can cause any problems such as this but i was going to do a resistence check on it and the 2001 500 auto service manual shows 2 plugs - one with 3 pins & one with 2pins. mine has 2 plugs - one with 3 & one with 4 pins. i think mine is the same from 01 -08. if this could be my problem, how do i check it? thanks

ATV: Jacked up souped up yamaha g9 golf cart
check and see if the top side of the diaphragm on the vacuum slide in the carb is wet with fuel. if so pinch off the vacuum line that goes from the top of the carb to the fuel shut off on the bottom of the tank. it should be the small hose.(that should have a vacuum operated fuel shut off). if it will rev up and run then replace the fuel shut off/petcock. when these go bad they suck fuel into the top of the carb and will cause the symptoms you listed.

ok, i just got home & iput a volt meter on battery cables at the battery. meter read 12.37 volts when i hooked it up. then i cranked it and the meter read 11.37 evenv when i tried to rev it up. it acts like it has a governor so it wont rev much at all. then as usual after about 45 sec it coughs & backfires , then dies. could it be the reg/ rect? and is there a way to test it. when it was running regardless of rpm , the highest volt meter read was 11.37 volts. please help!
