2007 650H1 automatic 4x4 pure stock/ no mods / original owner . dash display shows E for gear selector , rest of display works , will show low range , but move shifter all other points show E, runs bad like override on , push yellow override runs fine , but wont show N- or - R -or- high range on instrument cluster , ATV shifts fine ,only can start with hand brake engaged , any ideas for this problem ??

The E is displayed on the display when there is no position sensed or multiple gear positions sensed, sent by the Gear selection switch on the side of the transmission.

No position sensed may be caused by shift lever miss adjustment. Broken wiring from gear position sensor through the diodes to the LCD display broken. an open (bad) diode in the fusebox or corrosion on wiring connectors or bad gear gear position sensor switch

Multiple positions sensed may be caused by shorted (bad) diodes in the fuse box, diodes installed backwards, improper shift lever adjustment or adjoining shift position wires shorted together due to bad wire insulation, or corrosion in a wire connector.

Most likely you have removed a diode from the fuse box and reinstalled it backwards.
