Red face Clogged muffler maybe? Or something else?

It's been a long time since I've been in to make a comment or even ask a question. Good thing I hadn't forgot about all the good people here that knew a lot. Here's the deal.

I've got an 04 300 4X4 that well has been unused for a while. Been missing it so I thought I'd get her running again and get back on the trails some.

Carb needed to cleaned first thing. Bad gas, clogged. Not running at all. OK, that is taken care of. Went down a few minutes ago and well it was running but the idle was a little fast. I went around to the lower side and WHOA! The exhaust pipe where it comes out of the front of the motor was glowing RED! We shut it down quick. Hope no further damage was done.

Could it be that the muffler is stopped up? OR could it be something else? Stock muffler on it, original muffler. Can it be unclogged? IF that is what is wrong with it?

Check the air box for debris then make sure all the jets are clean. A cherry red exhaust is either from a extremely lean or extremely rich condition.

I'd take out the spark plug and check it. I'll bet the mix is very lean which would be indicated by a very white insulator.

My guess would be you didn't clean the carb well enough and you have a partially plugged pilot jet.not enough fuel and too much air = LEAN.
