2017 iron dog!!

Yesterday was the ceremonial start in Anchorage. Later today @ 11 am the first team will head out of big lake for a 2000+ mile ride across Alaska.
Only 35 teams this year.
Cat only had two of the 8 teams finish last year. All dropping due to engine issues of one kind or another.

0 Yams
9 Cats, team #s 2, 7, 12, 13, 15, 22, 30, 41, and 44
12 Poos
14Doos

Anybody on here know one of the racers?

Engines?

Was Cat running the Suzuki 800 or C-Tech 600 last year? What engine are they running this year?

Its a 600cc max race. The issues were self imposed. the only team that didnt blow a motor, didnt reflash the ecm for more top speed. Tens of thousands of miles before the race on dozens of sleds without issues.

Some of the teams had DNFs in previous years that are still considered rookies.

Team 12 blew both motors last year before the first check point. This year one of them wrecked just off the lake that it starts on! They are fixed up and back in it.

Team 30 Is heading back to the previous check point for??? Hope all is good! The area they stopped in is a supper twisty woods section. Pure speculation, but may be replacing a-arms as I type.
This is one of the veteran teams!

Teams 12 and 30 have scratched.

One of 30s team hit a tree hard enough to damage the bulkhead beyond repair. Riders are in good shape.

Team 12 had a nasty endow on flat lake just off the end of big lake. after a couple hours of on the clock work they head off down the trail again. 25 miles past the first wreck location, the other team member wrecked his sled and was taken to the hospital for a shoulder injury.

"Riders are in good shape".
Good to hear that news.

We stopped to eat and noticed other riders coming in with snow jammed in their helmets, jackets and gloves. They had snow everywhere. We looked out the door and couldn't see across the street. Six inches of snow fell while we ate a few burgers. That was the start of a great ride.
