I have a 1100 turbo, but to get mine off their are little metal hooks on the back, a coat hangar can be used to remove them or I think the dealers use a tool with a handle and a hook on the end

I would just take the hood off. It makes everything a lot easier. I can have my sled down to the bare frame and tunnel in less than 5 minutes if I take my time. These things are so easy to take apart it's silly.

Remove seat.
Remove both side panels.
Remove cowl wings, or whatever they call them.
Unplug speedo, and remove 4 torx screws, lift off hood assy, and it's done.

Nothing to it. Then you can really get to know everything under there.
