I use my '03 1/2 1M the same way and I just trimed my Challenger extreme to 2" and ported it. I also run Ice sctratchers, works great. By trimming the flimsy tips, it hooks up almost like having studs.

I ordered two 2003 Mt Cat 600 Efi 144's in the Spring of 2002. Before I took delivery in the Fall, I had the dealer swap the standard 2" track for the Camoplast 1.25. They have been great for boondocking in the UP as well as on groomed trail. Replaced one with a 2009 M8 with 2.25 track. For 50/50 riding, I prefer the 1.25.
