Angry Dealer dropped arctic cat

Damn, local dealer dropped cat all together a couple months ago. They've had cat for 15+ years (as long as I remember). Why does this happen? I asked why and they couldn't tell me, they just said the frustration has been going on with cat for quite a while. My closest dealer is now 25 miles away

A bunch of dealers in Maine gave up Arctic Cat. The dealer 40 miles from me in Bangor gave up the ATV's for Kymco! The reason the dealers gave them up was the idiotic management of the company told all dealers that they had to sell at least 150 units a year. Maine is a fairly large state, almost 400 miles from Kittery to Madawaska, yet the population is only a bit over 1 million, probably 75% concentrated in the southern most part. How in hell are you going to sell 150 units each year in a town with 1,000 people? Amazing to me some did. I just came back from the dealer in Jackman, Maine. They probably had 150 Arctic Cat sleds as well as as many Ski Do's. Look on the map and see how small and remote Jackman is! Someone needs to buy the CEO of AC a map of the USA and Canada. Where do folks ride ATV's's and snow sleds the most? Hmmmm, New York City? Nope, in the boonies, like Maine, Alaska, Canada...

Believe it or not.. A lot less inventory than say, Honda, Polaris and so on....
It's the GREAT DEALERS that stock a lot (nearly 70% or more of parts available), or order daily no matter the increased shipping costs implemented back in around 2009/2010 due to ups surcharges related to fuel costs..

My closest cat dealer is probably 30 minute drive. I only go there if I need to. They don't tend to carry a great inventory on parts and only order once a week. So I started to order parts online.

I have a cat dealer about 20 miles from me, I call to see if they have what I need in stock, if not, I order online from the fine folks at country cat.

They generally have everything in stock, they take paypal online and ship same day, I have ordered parts on Monday and had them in hand Wednesday. Can't ask for better service then that.

parts is not a big deal. You know what you sell and what moves easily and margins are good. It is the 3 years worth of whole good inventory sitting on most dealers lots they are paying interest on. that is causing them to drop cat like a fly.

inventory on the floor

we have the same problem.
but we are not a power sports dealer.
we sell office equipment.
we also service it.
delivery it and set it up.
the new sales quota is impossible.
in order to meet 1/2 of it we wholesale a lot of machines, making $0 on them.
but we carry $0 balance with the manufacturer so they never squabble about it.
we have more than 5 years worth of total business revenue sitting on the floor at any one time.
the customer service is what pays our bills day in and day out.
