I bought a 2017 500 alterra last year .looking to upgrade the tires from the Carlisle trail pro to some better lug tires .my problem is everything I look at don't fit the 10 inch rims on the bike . Seems like 12 inch rim is the norm .Are the rims really 10 inch or can it be a mistake in the book ? Specs say 25x8x10 on front and 25x10x10 on rear .can anyone recommend a good brand and place to get tires to fit 10 inch rims or will I have to upgrade rims as well in order to get a decent tire . I'm looking at traxion gripper tires as they got good reviews and fairly cheap but can only get them to fit 12 inch rims seems like . I'm in Canada .Thanks for help
First off I did a search of that model in both 2016 and 2017 models and both stated 25x8x12 fronts and 25x10x12 rears. I've never heard of cat using 10 inch rims. Look at the side of your tires and read the numbers off of those. Secondly I used discount tire to buy my most recent tires (GBC dirt devils) and they were an absolute pleasure to work with and I'd recommend them to anyone. If you truly do have a wacky rim size check out discountutvtires.com as they have a nice organized size chart to pick tires from, and they offer free shipping.
I honestly dont know why things are they way they appear. I just looked up the TRV model alterrands and that one shows the 10" rims. OP doesn't state it's a TRV but it's possible it could be. I don't know why they would go with an odd rim size like that. I have a 2006 500 auto TRV and it has the 12" and I would think you wouldn't want to lose inches on a machine designed for two riders. If life has taught me anything though it's to expect the unexpected.
Go check your rims with a tape measure. Also the tires will say the size.
There's a thread on here with all different tire opinions you might check out. I like my Bighorns.
So, get some nice 14" rims and never look back! :devil If you are looking for 12" AC steel rims, they are easy to find, eBay, Craigs list, etc. Lots of folks have them taking up space in the basement.
