It was brought to my attention (tc1) that cat has stepped up to the plate and has issued an across the board recall on all 2008 and early 09 front diffs. If your not the original owner call the toll free number in the link.
If you are the original owner expect a letter from cat.
I received my letter on Friday, certified mail. I was very surprised, good idea though incase someone says they never got the "safety alert notice" My local dealer didn't have a clue about the recall, he told me it would be 2 weeks as they are very behind. So, after reading some of the posts I have a feeling it's going to be longer than 2 weeks. Dealer told me, he would not order parts until the machine was there, he said that Cat makes them pay for them and they'll get reimbursed when the work is complete. He said their policy is no machine, no ordering of parts, says he's been hung out to dry too many times. I dunno
The 2 dealers near me both said the same thing... Must have machine onsite to order parts and since it is a do not continue to operate recall that they could not release it until complete.
That is how this is supposed to work. Dealers are in sled mode right now so maybe this issue is getting put on the back burner by some dealers. If your getting put off by a dealer I would call cat for clarification
Cats not in my name, still in the name of the one that owned it before the one I bought it from ,I do have the title, with a bill of sale, but have already put about 450 bucks out and rebuilt the front diff myself after it blew apart. so, I guess I wont be seeing any letters, or any assistance from Cat.
I took my perfectly running 2008 700 TRV to my selling dealer and they wanted an extra 2 hours to do the safety recall as my 6 year old quad is not to factory specs as someone, me I told them, has installed my top A-Arm bolts from the front. The bottom of the rad had to be moved forward to get them out. I offered them a 50/50 but was told no, they are already losing money on this job. I told them I would pick up my quad, I can change the direction of the 2 bolts in 30 minutes max.
I was then informed they would not let me have my quad without doing the safety recall. I said go ahead and do the recall at "no charge to you" but they refused unless I agreed to pay 2 hours extra labor. My quad was now held hostage.
I needed my quad this long weekend to clear trees on the Ontario A west snowmobile trail. My quad is a workhorse with a truck box. I had no choice but to pay the dealer whatever they wanted to do the safety recall or I would not have my quad back.
According to my bill it appears that Arctic Cat was paying 1.31 hours for the recall which included repairing the diff and I paid and extra 1.83 to have the front A-Arm bolts removed. I was told the seals were changed for free, I just had to pay for the parts. Total bill with tax 297.79. There is also no gear lube on my bill, maybe they reused my old stuff. Thanks for the no charge to you recall Arctic Cat.
A friend of mine had his front diff blow up last year on his 2009 550 H1, his VIN is not in the range of the safety recall. Arctic Cat paid for a brand new front diff and the same dealer charged 4.34 hours to replace.
