Issue with the oil level/dipstick

I had my machine to the dealer last month to have the first oil change done(2010 700 H1).When I got it back I noticed the oil level was reading overfull on the dipstick.So I drained the oil out and removed the oil filter last week, it sat for a good hour to make sure it was completely drained.I added about 1.8-1.9 liters and idled it for about 20 minutes,shut it off and let it sit for a few more minutes.I then checked the level(dipstick threaded in)and it was exactly full.Yesterday I went for a run and checked the level once I came back,and now it's reading over the full again.Has an issue like this ever happened before,is it possible I have the wrong dipstick??On any of the other 2010 H1 700's, what is written on the dipstick?Is there cross hatching or just a simple full mark?

I would hazzard a guess that it's reading over full due to the fact the oil filter has drained back slightly into the crank case because you checked it cold.

Your service manual IS correct at 1.9 litres for an oil change.

Thanks, I remember seeing 1.9 liters for an oil change and 2.6 for an overhaul oil change. I actually went for a small drive and then let it sit for a few minutes and it showed ok. And then after a full day of driving, I checked it again and it showed over full.....kinda sounds confusing. I had an issue like this a few years ago with my car.... It turned out that there was a little known recall on the dipstick tube where it was a little short, therefore showing the oil level overfull.... Frustrating when you know the amount of oil the engine takes and after you put it in it shows too full. I might just order another dipstick and see what happens.

Ya might wanna make sure the oil doesnt smell gassy/thin. If you start it up for short periods they run very rich and can wash down your oil. My 550 did that when doing yard work and start/stopping a lot.

Look At My Dipstick

i have a 2010 700 h1...been reading about all the oil level issues everyone seems to have...to thread in on to not thread in ,crosshatch on dipstick etc... i just done an oil and filter change...dealer sold me 3
quarts of oil...told me it would take 2 qts plus " a little bit"...owners manual call for 2qts...pamphlet in oil change kit call for 2qts...drained the oil...changed the filter...put the 2qts of oil in....started it...let it run for a bit...shut it down...left it set for 5 mins...checked the stick...and according to what i see...it's perfectly full...there in no crosshatching on my dipstick as you can see in the photo... the level sits just above the line after the word "oil"

Thanks for the pic,my dipstick is different looking than that,kinda strange that two 2010's would have different dipsticks...I'll take a pic of mine tomorrow to show the difference.Thanks again.On one side of my dipstick it has "for ATV only" and on the other it has "not for PRLR".

Got an oil cooler? May be siphoning back to the crankcase. Mine drips all over the place when it is over full.

Well I got another dipstick ordered from Country Cat,the new one was a bit longer but the full mark was at the same level so I drained out a bit of the oil to bring it down to the full mark.My next oil change I'll let it drain completely and measure off exactly 1.9 liters and see what happens.Thanks for the help.
