2006 Dvx 250

Hello everyone. I bought my son a Dvx 250 and I'm having problems. It starts up fine. But when it starts running it like it keeps like surging consistently thoughout the whole ride it won't turn off at all. It will ride all day like that. This is the first automatic Atv I have had so I'm not sure if this is normal or not. It seems like it's lacking some power. I also just noticed that the air box has some greasy substance inside seems like gas or oil I'm not sure. I really need some help in this matter can some one help.

Need to know what is surging. Is the engine stalling? Is the engine running okay but the bike is slowing down erratically? As far as the substance in the air box, it may just be air filter oil, which is normal. If its a thick, sticky film it may be just that. If it looks like motor oil it's venting in from the crank case vent and may indicate worn piston rings. If it's gas it could be due to a flooding condition in the carb.

thanks for your relpy. what i mean is that while it is increasing speed or your in a constant speed it keeps rocking back and forth. it doesn't ride smooth like a believe it should.

The engine does not stall at all. but i feel it should run alot faster. i bought the atv from someone its mint condition. but he says it was sitting for about 7 months or so.
