1998 300 cat leaking oil help ?

Picked up a used 300 atv the other day very clean machine, motor was rebuilt by cat dealer runs like a champ, but leaks oil bad from what seems to be on the left side of the motor, the shifter side.
It seems to be coming from the cover where the shifter goes in.

I dont have a owners manual or service manual so I dont really want to just go unbolting stuff blind.

Also without the manual I have no clue at how much oil should be in the motor. It seems to be over full looking at the side glass its full . took the oil filler cap off and the oil is to the top . Just doesnt seem right to me, as the side glass is at an inch and a half lower than the filler cap

Bought the machine from an elder lady so I just dont know if it was over filled and she blew a seal out . If so how hard is the repair going to be.....

First i would drain the oil and replace the filter, then fill it with 3.5qts wet clutch approved oil and see if it still leeks, because right now it WAY TO FULL .

Thanks for the advice jgood at least now I know for sure its over filled. Trying not to sound dumb it seems I've read there is 2 drain plugs on this motor , im also guessing its going to be easy to tell there location and the filter location ..... This is my 1st ATV so im going into this kind of in the dark .

If you or anyone has a cross over filter number for a 1998 300 A.C. it would be very helpful..

There are two holes in the rear skid plate about 1.5" in dia. right above those are the drain plugs, i belive they are 14mm and 17mm,
the oil filter cover is just to the left of the sight glass right behind the right rear wheel, it has 3 10mm nuts that hold it in place, you can get the filter at any auto parts store, the WIX part#is 24949.

thx again jgood changed out oil , now its at the proper level in the side glass .... I've run it in the garage for 5 mins reving it up at times, let it sit for a while trying to see if it still leaks, after 2 hours just a few drops...

Need to take it for a spin and see if it gets worse. will update after I ride it.. right now the weather is to bad to take it out.....
