ATV: 2008 Arctic Cat 650 H1
2009 Mileage: Pod Broke
2008 Mileage: 350
I asked this question last year with some feedback, but still curious, does it hurt anything to remove the spark arrestor? Mechanically speaking, such as burnt valves...etc? I took mine out just for kicks... and man what a difference it made... some may say "Just get a pipe" but with marriage in the near future, I dont have the funds for such a luxuary. So I dont want to hurt me atv either.

Thanks guys.

you can remove the entire plate. i made a second tip that bolts over mine so i have two outlets. been running almost 3 years with no problems. like stated before there are plenty of good posts on this topic- most are fairly recent.
the only problem i have seen with this mod is when the exhaust spends alot of time under water. water can make its way into the muffler since there is lower pressure coming out 2 holes and can start to build a layer of mud in the pipe. my cousin already had to clean the one on his 700H1.

Some people even need to rejet after the spark arrester mod and some don't.

I would not reccomend riding around in any wheat fields that have just been harvested or anywhere were there is alot of stuff that can catch fire, last year a local farmer was riding through his field, shut off his quad, it backfired (like they do often) and lit the whole field on fire, I guess he cheaped out when his arrestor rotted out and chose not to replace it.

I ride in the National Forest so I must have an arrestor. When I pulled the stock arrestor off I found the proper weave of mesh from smallparts.com and installed between the muffler and new pipe. You'd have to go to the NFS website to get the specs I forgot them tho.

I removed mine 1.5 years ago with no problems.
When I say removed that means un-bolting the plate and removing the screen and then
re-installing the plate. It sounds better and may have made a minor power increase.
If you add a snorkel to your intake thats when the carb jets need to be bigger.
Just removing the spark arrester should not damage your engine.

At one point I did try the full arrester mod (with the additional outlet welded to the bolt-on plate)
and it was way to loud for my area.
