Service your Diamond Drive!

Recommended service is crucial at first 500 miles. I did mine yesterday and the oil that came out was filled with metal. As the gears break in on each other lots of meterial wears off. Very important that you drain/fill, run it a mile or two, then drain/fill again @ first 500 miles. My 011 800 F used about 15 oz's X2 to fill, flush and fill. Easy to do. Remove secondary clutch (one bolt) Drain DD. Tip sled on its R side. Fill to line level. Re-install clutch...run a mile or two. Repeat. Cost me about $25 for cat DD oil. I will do again @ 1500 miles.

For a better cleaning remove the Diamond Drive from the sled. Split the case and clean in a parts washer. I did the 500 mile service and a second flush/new fluid on my 09 Crossfire 800 and she blew a bearing the next season. Still under warranty thank god. For an hours worth of work could save you a ton of money and headaches. Just my 2 cents.

-not a fan of AC's flushing fluid
-with the DD having sealed bearings inside it, not sure I'd use a parts washer either. Lil bit of varsol would make short order of a bearing with a less than perfect seal.
-I'd be more inclined to remove n split, wipe clean and if nec only wash the bottom of the case using brake cleans or similar. If pulling the guts out, good idea to give all the bearings a lil squirt of grease or splash of whatever lube your gonna use.

15oz x2 sounds like to much oil for the dd my service manual said 3 oz for non reverse and 12 oz for reverse and not an oz more or less.

Unhappy I took my 2010 F8LXR to dealer

and he said that cat suggests to flush system every 1000 mile instead of once a year. That was not what the dealer told me to begin with last year

BTW< you cannot under or overfill the oil level, at least on the last DD's I have owned. The fill line is at the bottom of a fill plug. If you dont put enough, it wont drip out (so add more), if you put in too much, it will self level to fill line as it drips out. No brainer.
