Whats that clunk?
Every time i brake hard, stop, or change directions, I hear a loud clunk. Is this the clutches binding? If i do it gradual, rapid, etc, its still the same clunk,.
Is this what the shift assist is for?
(2009 F8)

The "clunk" is play or slop in the diamond drive gears. The shift assist is to take the bind out of the secondary clutch spring.

definately not slop in the gears, this clunk is considered normal it is the helix contacting the rollers, when you use the brake hard the helix does not return all the way to it's closed position. It will do the same thing with or without shift assist.

the clunk could be the sprockets taking up the slack in the track when you change direction

thanks - i would have to say it sound like helix. It stuck on me when just opening it up to change belt. I should probably take off the secondary and clean it up.
So what does shift assist do? Just help reduce friction somewhere?

the shift assist sits under your secondary spring and reduces binding when backshifting. the spring actually takes place of a plastic washer that the spring sits on.. so you replace the plastic with a small roller bearing.. you can figure it out im sure haha.. when your secondary spreads apart and your helix twists down the spring twists with it so it just takes the binding out from the spring turning..
I see you live in Central MN where abouts do you live?

I picked up my 2011 F8 SnoPro last Saturday and notice the clunk when I take off from a stop. Sounds like it's coming from the left side. I haven't noticed it when stopping or turning, only on takeoff.
Is this the same thing we're talking about here? Is it normal?

Same area as you. I ride the Wobegon, Soo, St Stephen and across 10 towards gillman around here.
Boring compared to park rapids
How hard is it to get under spring? Have to pull clutch apart dont you?

X2, Yeap its the drive sprocket hittting the dogs on the track. My f-7 with ACT drive did it,the f-8 samething. Only after hard braking to complete stop, then thump when you take off.
