Planning to do the "Whitbread" turbo install

Decided to start a new thread about doing a turbo upgrade for the 700 AC Diesel. Will try to track down part numbers and where to find stuff info, if there is still anyone out there crazy enough to do it. I can only say, read Matt's post and I'll try to add anything along the way that might help. Here are a few things that I've already done: Gutted out stock muffler and welded a 2.5" tip. You wouldn't believe how much stuff is inside the stock muffler! Without the turbo, the exhaust is kinda loud, but I like it! Next I installed an Optima Yellow Top D51R battery, you may be able to get an even larger one in that spot= check the picture. Don't forget to strap it down and put dielectric grease on the terminals. Next I turned the fuel screw in and backed it back 1/2 turn, I may turn it back another half turn, we'll see. I installed a pyrometer, see picture. Glad that I did, as I could get the EGT's to over 1200 F, if I ran wot for 1/2-3/4 mile ! That's when I backed her off half a turn! Yes, I'm the old Numasahake before the password meltdown. If the turbo mod proves to be too expensive for me, it won't happen, as I'm the original "Cheap Bastid"

Merv, it was around $550, but it's a real Mitsubishi turbo, and it's coming from Japan. I emailed Matt at <whitbreadperformance@gmail.com> I believe he can get me the CNC'd parts and the rest is just welding stainless steel. I have lots of guys locally that can do that. Blue silicone hoses should not be a problem. The diesel grows on you. It is plenty fast to keep up on the trails. A little more poke on the hills would be nice, especially riding with the wife. The turbo should quiet down the gutted exhaust. Wife was not impressed with my gutting it out, but it sounds kinda hot! Behind it, you can kinda feel each exhaust pulse! I'm so glad I found a diesel! Now I gotta find a nice light bar to replace the silly plowing lines on the box.

I spoke to Jason Samples of Kraft Power, the rep for Kohler engines, today. He worked with Arctic Cat developing the 700 SuperDuty. He said they ran it through all kinds of severe tests , towing 2,000 lb trailers through the desert in Arizona, for European military use. I guess it passed in flying colors, but no military picked it up, probably the price was too low, when a toilet seat costs $7 million, $7,000 for a diesel heavy duty 4x4 is too cheap. He couldn't find the 4,500 rpm governor springs or valve springs, said I'll have to talk to someone in EU. He did suggest stronger head bolts and more clamping pressure for the cylinder head. Anyway, that's today's update.

Thanks, LED's that I bought at Walmart for $20. Really impressed with the "Black Boar" front box. It's super rugged, the plastic is between 1/4" and 1/3" thick. I put the plastic reflectors on because the ones that came on it were very tiny. Reflectors $2 each at Walmart.

Found a contact for parts for the diesel that you can't find in the USA= <sleeman-hawlken.co.uk> Also was surprised that mine has the 4,300 rpm governor, the green governor spring. All I need is the 4,500 spring (brown) and 4,500 rpm valve springs. Pic of her with lites on.

She let me down today. Had to tow her home with the 400. I'm guessing the fuel filter is plugged, started loosing power and stalled. Now, I'll never get caught without a spare filter. Ordered 2. Suspect there was gunk in the fuel tank when I got it from lack of use. BTW, there is an AC D diesel listed on eBay from New Jersey, if anyone is looking.

Thanks to a post by MIKE _O , I'm pretty sure it's not the filter, more like a cracked or loose fuel pick-up. I checked the primer, it just pumps forever. Will take it in to my mechanic Monday, as it's too cold to work outside on her. At least I'll have plenty of filters coming to last for a while.
