Question 2010 Bearcat XT Slow Recoil on Pull Cord

Just bought a used 2010 Bearcat XT. The starter gear is awfully chewed up so I suspect I'll be depending on the pull cord to start it for a while. However the recoil on the cord is exceptionally slow. Any quick fix for this? I'm guessing gummed up grease. Maybe spraying lithium grease or a good cold weather lubricant down the whole by the cord while I pull it slowly? Is it hard to pull the cover off and clean? It's -10 outside and I don't have a garage so I thought asking here would hurt less than digging in it this evening after work.

Thanks for the assistance.

I wouldn't spray grease in there. Best to remove and clean it. Should be easy access assuming it's a 570 fan? Check to see if cord binding on something first though.

It is a 570 Fan. I'll get under the cowling this week and give the removal a try. With it off I might could tighten up the recoil spring a turn or two also. Thanks

I did that with my Sabercat's recoil last year after cleaning it.

On these engines the cord disappears into the hole and then goes over a pulley and down to the recoil. Probably not but the pulley could be sticking. Another possibility is that the cord was changed at one time and a thicker one was installed. hopefully a good cleaning will free everything up for you. good luck.
