Question How to make the Bearcat XT better in snow?

The machine is good but could be better! I have had vk 540' bearcat 660 and vk pro. None of these burnt the belt like this one. 540 was probably the best in snow but no top end. I am not keen on losing my top end by putting in the workhorse kit (57 mph). Has anyone done it and can you confirm top end?

On the old arctic cats you could adjust the driven clutch by increasing spring tension (3 adj holes). Haven't check this clutch to see if you have that option on the XT.

Any other suggestions? What has been tried and what results? This is an awesome machines otherwise.

Thanks

That's a heavy sled.

Put wide skis on it right off and it will help in the deep stuff.

You always trade away top end to get good low end torque...and save belts. You decide what is important to yah. I gave up top end for low end functionality. I hate buying belts.

Question

Absolutely agreed. I have had some previous low gear machines that didn't have enough speed to get on top of the powder and were therefore always plowing it. You also need to get enough speed quickly so you can crest a powder covered upgrade in the woods.

Just wonder if the workhorse gear set reduces it too much and all you have is hauling power.

The worst thing AC could have done was to discontinue the 550WT and replace it with the XT. Sad but true.... I should have kept my 550... waaaayyyyy better than my XT will ever be. Sad to say there are no mods to make the XT a *really good* woods machine.

Cool Going to try

I taken the risk -- workhorse gear kit order and the new campo last 2 inch track. Hope it a wise investment. The machine rides like a dream so aim hoping this will enable to break trails without burning the belt. Will post the results. Expect to burn more gas though.

BDX lists maximum top speed as 57mph = 92 Km/h. That is a very big drop in top speed for sure.....

Thumbs up New track and BDX workhorse gear set

2 inch lug track installed and new gear set. Testing started. 67mph on a loosely pack trail. Lots of torque and gets up to speed in a hurry. Will be breaking trail tomorrow.

Had a tough time getting the diamond drive to spline and seat back in. Other than that every thing went smooth. Must be a secret to it that I don't know. Will report back on gas consumption too.

So far so good.

Results to date

Speed is good. Engages really low. Got down in slob and no burning of belt when we were getting her out. Can break trails at low speeds and pushes through the snow well. I loosen the front retainer straps from 1 " to 3/4". The bigger lugs now have a chance to lift the front which I have found better so far. Lighten the steering with no adverse impacts. I have not hauled anything yet and no feedback on gas mileage. I was out with a super wide and the big difference is the 24 can back up a mile and then run at it again. The VK 540 could do the same. Don't think there is a mod out there to make backup better. Happyso far with the go forward results

Will pose some pictures later.
