08 Raptor 250 JB weld Stator cover and metal shavings question

So I took the cover off for the gear that engages with the starter gear and the case inside was scuffed/gouged up and there was some metal shavings it appears that they never put the dowel/spacer rod back in so the gear was rocking which probably is why the starter is hanging up.

The cover was also cracked ( Hair line Been having a oil leak issue ) where that gear rides right below the started nose. I cleaned everything up and scuffed up the cover inside and out where the crack is and JB Welded it. I am now waiting for dowels, gaskets and some other odds and ends and I will put it all back together.

I am a bit nervous about having JB weld inside the case even though I just put a thin layer to kinda just stop the leak and put in on much thicker on the outside.

I also hope not to much metal is inside the engine.

Do you guys think JB weld will be ok in this situation? I am guessing when the starter is engaged there maybe be some pressure on the case.

No, personally, would bite the bullet and replace the housing. Possibly find a used one on eBay. It's an 08, shouldn't bee too hard to find.

I can find the clutch side used but not the stator side, The crack isnt that bad where it will jump a lot of oil out, I am just worried about JB weld getting in the oil if it came off.

I scuffed it up with a sanding disc and a stone on a dremel, I guess we will see.



Is Permatex Ultra copper RTV ok to use on a new factory gasket?



Or would Hondabond 4 or Yamabond 4 be better?

Its all back together and it seems to be leak free and the JB Wled seems to be holding so we will see. I used just a little bit of the Permatex Copper spray.
