questions just bought 09 z1 lxr non turbo

Just bought an 09 z1 lxr 1100 non turbo 4200 miles for $3000. This sled is for the girlfriend and is my first 4 stroke sled. took it out for a ride today and the thing is a dog. No get up and go and tops out around 40mph on the lake. Like I said this is my first 4 stroke and first cat so I really have nothing to compare it to but my renegade 600sdi and my neighbors renegade 1200 t-tech and 900 ace which are a lot faster. It sounds like if it was a 2stroke that its running on one cylinder but not knowing anyone with one of these sleds I'm not sure if this is normal sounding. It is very slow off the line like its struggling to even get moving. It has the gold spring in the primary (thought I read somewhere that its not the stock spring and help keep the track from spinning in the driveway). Any help would be appreciated as right now I'm thinking I made a bad purchase.

There is something wrong here.It should be close to a 600 on top end and faster than any ACE. It's a 120 hp sled, though it's no rocketship. It sounds like you may have a fouled plug. The plugs are a bitch to change, but you should be able to do an exhaust pipe temp reading to verify. Do you have access to an infa-red temp reader? You can check the temp on the y-pipe for each cylinder. They should be equal. Not sure about the spring for that year. Keep us informed.

Sounds like it was started and not allowed to come up to temperature, shut off, and fouled a plug. Happens all the time with this engine.

I hope it's that simple. Well simple being having to take the entire sled apart to get to the plugs lol.

Make sure you put in iridium plugs, not the cheapies, in there.

The Z1 is a good sled. Warm, comfortable ride, durable. 3 grand is a decent price for it. Just remember to let it run for a few minutes each time you start it, so the fuel mixture wont be over rich, to load up the plugs. Also at 5K miles the valve clearance should be checked, which means tearing everything apart that you're doing now. Personally, I liked the looks of the 09 the best.
